Paul Koering; Minnesota Senator(left) and Brandon Wilde; gay porn star. Photo: The SwordState Senator Paul Koering is best known for being Minnesota's first gay Republican to hold elected office. Despite being gay, his platform (anti-abortion, pro-guns) is unremarkable for a conservative. So what was the 45-year-old senator thinking when he took 20-year-old gay porn star Brandon Wilde on a date in mid June of 2010?

Wilde, a twink known for the distinctive tiger paw tattoos on his chest, splits his time between Brainerd, Minnesota and West Hollywood, California, and has appeared in several hardcore gay sex scenes. The young performer was also promoting escort services on a well known gay site, but has since taken his profile down.

Wilde first tweeted about his night with Koering on after their date in the middle of June, writing, "lol so funny!! in 45 mins im going 2 dinner with the senator :)." The senator, Koering, picked Wilde up and took him to Iven's on the Bay restaurant in Brainerd, where they dined on strip steak and beef medallions.

BP forsaw this disaster. Photo: WiredIn an e-mail written six days before the Deep-water Horizon explosion, a BP engineer called the well a “nightmare.”

The e-mail was released Monday by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, and it’s one of many company documents describing the risky, cost-cutting decisions that preceded the disaster.

“This has been a nightmare well which has everyone all over the place,” wrote BP engineer Brian Morel to a colleague. Morel wanted the company to use a “liner,” or sheath around the well that would keep gas from surging up the pipes and possibly exploding.

One such surge caused the Deep-water Horizon to temporarily shut down in early April, but BP opted against installing the liner, which would have cost an extra $7 million to $10 million.
