Grief-stricken youth of Denu in the Ketu South District of the Volta region last Friday poured onto principal streets of the town in protest against the death of a woman and her baby at the Ketu District Hospital a month ago due to an alleged medical negligence.

The protest, which lasted for almost five hours, according to the organizers, was not only to draw attention to the negligence which they believe caused the death of the woman, Dzifa Agbofuatsi, and her baby, but also to show their disdain for the way and manner in which the hospital authorities handled the matter.

The chiefs and people of Mepe Traditional Area in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region on Saturday enstooled Ms Hannah Tetteh, Minister of Trade and Industry as a development queen of the area with the title, Mama Akuwa Ngoryisi I.

The enstoolment also witnessed the honouring of Minister of Road and Highways, Mr Joe Gidisu and some Deputy Ministers of State from the North Tongu District. Mr Samuel Ablakwa Okudzeto, a Deputy Minister of Information, Mr Gideon Quarcoo, Deputy Minister of Communication and Alhaji Bubey Dzinadu, North Tongu District Chief Executive were given plagues and parcels.

Ex-President, J.J. Rawlings is back at Wume-Tefle in the Volta Region where he is helping with the removal of weeds from the Volta Basin to help fight water-borne eye diseases affecting the people.

He has been part of the ongoing project by the Volta River Authority to get rid of the weeds that have stagnated the flow of the river and allowing for the breeding of parasites that carry eye diseases. He was at the venue when fire gutted his residence and destroyed the family’s property on Sunday morning.

The Minster-designate for the Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs and Member of Parliament (MP) for Ho-East, Mrs. Juliana Azumah Mensah, has condemned the recent attack on Mr. Isaac Deku, a Junior High School teacher at Agortime Afegame, by unidentified persons.

Mrs. Azumah Mensah described the act as uncalled for, stressing that the teacher was discharging his duty, and should not have been treated in such a way.

Personnel of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) have been urged to resist enticements by the public to bend the rules in their favour.

Mr Matthias Homey, Assistant Director of Immigration in charge of Aflao, gave the caution in an apparent reference to a recent video clip capturing border operatives supposedly in acts of extortion.
