The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni, has said there will be no grace period for the conversion of old passports into biometric ones after 2015.

Addressing Ghanaian residents in Switzerland in Bern last Sunday, Alhaji Mumuni said the next five years was enough for Ghanaians holding the old passports to convert them into the biometric ones, which possessed all the security features.

President John Evans Atta Mills on Friday made a spiritual commitment of the nation, seeking prayers for Ghana to realise its goals to improve and better the lives of the people.

He said despite the objections raised in some quarters on the idea of prayers for the nation, the nation still needs prayers and do God’s bidding to get his abundant blessings.

“This is a country which needs prayers so that we do what is right and pleasing in the sight of God”, President Mills said, when he received a delegation of the clerics from the Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM), at the Osu Castle in Accra.

Policy think tank Imani Ghana has criticized government’s decision to return the STX Korea Housing deal to Parliament.

The group says government’s insistence on passing the agreement could have far reaching consequences on the economy that has not been fully addressed in the revised deal.

In a statement the it noted that the revised deal will still leave behind a colossal $1.5 billion national debt in the next 5 years. It says despite the huge financial cost, there is no plan by government to pay up the debt and fund the project.

The Ghana Education Service has warned that no headmaster has the authority to refuse admissions to SHS one, and advised that all grievances must be channeled through the Ministry of Education.

The Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service, Mr. Charles Parker Allotey, says that there will be new intakes into all Senior High Schools this year contrary to reports by some heads of schools that the non-availability of facilities will make it impossible to accommodate new students in September.

The dismissed Media Relations Manager for the National Health Insurance Authority, Akwesi Acquah says he is contemplating legal action against his former employers over his removal.

Mr. Acquah was shown the exit Wednesday for allegedly vacating post for 30 days, a claim he has denied.

He says he was away for only two weeks but that was after management refused to provide a chair for his office, a situation he complained about since his transfer to the head office in January.
