Local timber contractors say they have been thrown out of business because prime lands in forest reserves have been allocated to expatriate loggers.

Speaking to the Ghanaian Times in Accra Thursday, Mr Boateng Poku, chairman of Ghana Timber Association, said local timber contractors were given concessions in open forests, which do not have enough timber species.

Telecommunications operator Vodaphone says it is unaware of a directive requiring mobile phone companies to print all their scratch cards or airtime vouchers locally.

The directive was first issued in June last year in an initiative government says would boost business opportunities for local printing companies and lead to the creation of more jobs.

The former Country Treasurer of Barclays Bank, Simon Dornoo, formally takes over as Managing Director of the country’s biggest bank, Ghana Commercial Bank today.

Mr. Dornoo succeeds Lawrence Adu Mante whose contract ended earlier last year but was asked to stay on until a replacement was found.

The Management of Metro Mass Transit Ltd (MMT) on Monday commenced a standardised charging luggage fare in all 16 depots nationwide.

A statement signed by Mr Henk Visschers, Managing Director of MMT, said it had become necessary for the corporate entity to charge "realistic and economic luggage fares rates" to enhance its fare stabilisation role in the transport industry and in line with its vision of providing "affordable means of transportation to the Ghanaian populace".

About one hundred international railway companies have expressed interest to operate Ghana's railway transport system. The companies are located in the United States of America, China, the United Kingdom, Russia, India, Switzerland, Sweden and Italy.

As a result of the vast interest, a Railway Complaints, Appeal and Review Panel has been established to deal with matters arising from inter-connectivity challenges of the various rail lines to be operated by the companies.
