Ghana football authorities insist that in-form striker Matthew Amoah has not been ruled out from national team duties.

The Holland-based forward suspects he was not considered for the recent World Cup qualifier against Libya because he turned down several matches in June.

But the vice-president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Fred Pappoe, says Amoah is a key player for the Black Stars and his absence in June has not affected his chances.

“No one has ruled out Amoah for future national team matches. I think there was a breakdown in communication that’s why he suspects that he’s been left out but I will talk to him and have it cleared up,” Pappoe told Ghanasoccernet.

Pappoe, who is also the chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee, denied claims that he publicly criticised the player for not turning up for recent matches when he was invited.

“I have never and will never chastise my players when I have direct contact with to address issues if I have to,” Pappoe said.

“I had explained on radio that he asked to be left out of some matches because he had only just recovered from injury and we thought it was a fair request from the striker.

“We also need to think about our players’ club careers too as well. He wanted to cement his place in his team which will be beneficial for Ghana in the long term.

“We wanted to give him the opportunity to regain his full fitness, get a place in his club’s starting line up so that when he turns up for the Black Stars he can give his 100 percent.

“But I think he was misinformed about my interview and I will call him to reassure him that the doors are always open for him,” Pappoe added.

Amoah is in good form for his Dutch club NAC Breda as he has scored four goals in three matches for the club so far this season.

He was furious at being left out of the Nations Cup squad in January 2008 by coach Claude Le Roy.
