Quincy set for Birmingham
The agent of Quincy Owusu-Abeyie has confirmed that the player is set on a move to English Championship side, Birmingham.
Quincy, a former Arsenal forward – currently plying his trade at Spartak Moscow – has visited St Andrews and met with Blues boss Alex McLeish.
Now the representative of the 22 year-old one-time Ajax trainee says the Ghana international wants to push through a move having agreed personal terms.
If a deal is signed, it would mark a return to England following his exit from The Gunners in January of 2006.
Blues are believed to have agreed an initial loan deal with Spartak, with a view to a £3.5 million permanent transfer further down the line.
“We’re at the final hurdle right now, hopefully it will all be completed very soon,†said Owusu-Abeyie’s agent Leon Callender in the Birmingham Mail.
“From the day dot, Quincy has been very impressed with Birmingham and he wants to join.
“We came down to have a look round when Marcus Bent was being signed I think it was, and sorted out personal terms and all the rest of it.
As soon as we walked out of the meeting with Birmingham, Quincy turned to me and said ‘this is the place for me’.
“He’s totally dedicated to Birmingham and even though other teams have now come into the equation, he has made it clear he is not interested.
“Spartak may be getting offers for a bit more but Quincy has told them that it’s Birmingham or nothing, so it’s just about the clubs sorting the monies out.â€
Owusu-Abeyie is reported to have held talks with Everton before his trip to the Midlands, and Fulham, Monaco and Lille are also on his trail.
However, Blues is where he sees his future and it is the club where Owusu-Abeyie believes he can make the biggest impact.
