Ghanaian teen stabbed to death in London
An 18-year-old Ghanaian, Frederick Moody, has been stabbed to death after being ambushed by a gang wielding knives in South London.
Frederick was stabbed to death last Thursday, six hours after a London court pronounced a life sentence on a Nigerian resident in the UK for the murder of another Ghanaian last year.
According to a report in the Daily Graphic, witnesses claimed they had heard the killers shout “leave him for dead” before fleeing the scene in Guildford Road, Stockwell, on bicycles. A 16-year-old boy was arrested yesterday morning in Brixton over the killing.
Frederick stumbled down the road before collapsing from stomach wounds in front of his younger sister, witnesses said.
Frederick’s death also brings to three, the number of Ghanaians who have died in knife crimes in London within a period of one and half years.
The youngster had just left his home when he was attacked shortly after 7.00 p.m. Residents, including a local general practitioner, tried to treat him before paramedics arrived. He was declared dead at 10.15 p.m.
The teenager was said to have earlier on grabbed a bag and left the house telling his mother he would be back in a few minutes. But half an hour later when the doorbell rang she answered the door to find no one was there. When the bell rang a second time, it was a neighbour saying her son had been stabbed.

Teenager dies in stabbing attack
A teenager has died after being stabbed in south London.
The 18-year-old was found with a stab wound to the abdomen by police called to reports of an assault in Guildford Road, Stockwell, on Thursday.
Police believe the victim was attacked by up to eight males who were described as wearing hooded tops and had bikes. The victim died in hospital later.
A 16-year-old boy was arrested earlier in connection with the stabbing and is being questioned by detectives.
Police said he was arrested at his home in Brixton, south London.
A crime scene cordon was set up following the attack, which took place at about 1915 BST.
Early on Friday officers were carrying out a forensic examination of a green Peugeot parked in Guildford Road.
Keith Bayley, who lives opposite where the victim was found, said he had seen the teenager lying in a pool of blood.
He said: “One of our neighbours came and knocked on our door and told our son there was a body lying on the street.
“There were a lot of paramedics trying to revive him. He was there for about 20 minutes, then they took him away in an ambulance.
“Until then he was just lying there on the road, fighting for his life.”
Mr Bayley said the stabbing had changed how he and his family felt about the area.
“It changes everything round here. My 14-year-old son has asked to be picked up from school tonight. It just changes everything,” he said.
A teenage friend of the victim, who gave her name as Natasha, said she had known him for five years and described him as “tall, slim and good looking”.
“He always stayed out of trouble, he was a sweet kid and actually quite quiet.
“It has been horrifying hearing the news this morning. As soon as I heard I knew it was going to be someone I knew.”
Edward Skurfield, 19, who lives in Guildford Road said: “I have lived here for three years and my friend has lived here for 11 years and we have not heard of any knife crime in that time in this area.
“It is so upsetting because people keep dying.”
The 18-year-old is the 21st teenager to suffer a violent death in London this year.
Roman Catholics will be gathering for an all-day vigil at Westminster Cathedral on Friday where they will pray for an end to knife and gun crime in the city.
Organiser Nick Black said it was a way of bringing people together.
“There are a lot of people out there like me who don’t really know what to do about this and there is a level of fear and intimidation on the streets with people nervous about approaching anybody.”
