Poll puts Nduom ahead but…
A survey conducted by a group calling itself Citizens for Better Ghana, that puts the flag bearer of the Convention Peoples’ Party (CPP), Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom ahead of the others in the December polls, has come under strict criticism with almost all the political parties surveyed on disputing its credibility.
According to the survey, the CPP’s Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom had 39% followed by Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo of the NPP with 30% and the NDC’s Prof. John Evans Atta Mills polling 23%, whilst the PNC’s Dr. Edward Mahama trails the other three with just 3%.
However, representatives from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Convention Peoples’ Party (CPP) have disputed the integrity of the group which conducted the survey.
Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, Deputy General Secretary of the NDC rubbished the group and its result, saying “such a survey does not win votes”.
“I will not put substance on this by a group which is even unknown,” he noted.
The spokesperson for Nana Akufo-Addo, Mustapha Hamid also disagreed with the criteria used by the group.
“There are three things that win an election: first of all, it is the record of the party and its organization; two, is the message of the campaign; and three, the record and leadership quality of the person who is leading (the party), in this case the presidential” he explained.
He said without these elements in place, “I will strongly dispute a survey” by a group that lacks the capability to determine who is best qualified to lead the country.
Although the survey favours the CPP, the campaign team of its presidential candidate abhors it.
Dr. Nduom’s Campaign Director, Kosi Dede questioned the objectivity of the group and said such polls cannot represent the wider view of the public.
He said the group has for two years been canvassing supports for Dr. Nduom, giving reasons why Ghanaians should not take the survey serious.
Mr. Kosi Dede said: “If say a group like the Centre for Democratic Development (CDD) or some other fairly independent group has conducted the survey and put it out there, then I will be willing to comment on their survey.”
