Open letter to Flt. Lt. J. J. Rawlings
Dear J.J,
I am writing to you about the press conference you organized on July 1st 2008 and the interview you granted VOA. The headlines were “Ex-president Accuses ruling party over king’s murder”, J.J GOES WILD,” My biggest question to you is “why do you think the ruling party is responsible for the murder of the Ya-Na Yakubu Andani, why are you going wild ?
I thought the umbrella in the various homes is solely for sheltering Akatamansonians from the vagaries of the weather, be it some rough and turbulent rains or some scorching sun. It is only the elephant that belonged to the bush. Is it an admission by you that the elephant has done so well since it kicked you and your umbrella party out of the Castle in 2000 that you want to go where it came from to learn how it could perform many miracles within 7 years?
Oh, you said during your press conference that “not a single advice has been taken by the NDC apparatchiki since you left office as president? Are you sure? May be we can play back the memory game;
I remember very well you told them to boycott the passage of the National Health Insurance Scheme(NHIS) in parliament and they did, you asked them to Boycott ROPAL they did,
you asked Prof Mills to return some gift items given to him by the presidency during an independent celebrations and he did, You asked them to form CJA they did and it gave you the platform to call Mr Kuffuor a thief (Ataa Ayi).
Oh just recently you refused to accept an honor bestowed on you by your counterpart President Kuffuor and asked Professor Fiifi to reject his and he did. Sorry sir, it is never true that the umbrella helmsmen do not heed your advice. Besides, remember all this advice from you to the NDC has cost them dearly. It cost the “Asomdwehene” the 2000/2004 elections.
You lost Gusie Tanor and co as well as Obed Asamoah and co. Bede Ziedeng lost his ‘balls’(ouch) and your continual advice will cost the NDC 2008 elections. Because, the NHIS is doing wonders. 9million people have been registered, several people including your supporters have benefited from it. Out of this over 6million are representing over 50% of the eligible voters. You are not so lucky sir; Mr Kuffuor just announced free medical care for pregnant women and children.
That is bad news to your NDC The NPP has solved the Capecoast, mankesim and Elmina water crisis and that too is not good news for you In Ghana, pensioners pay has gone up from a paltry GH 1 cedi a month under your NDC to GH 22 cedis (2,200%) this one too is no good news for you and your party.(If you think I am lying, asked K.B Asante).
Ah, lest I forget, the NPP has just signed a USD 1.38 Billion contract to refurbish existing railways and build new ones all the way to the northern region. Sir, as for this one stop them because if they build that, Mahama or no Mahama, Betty mould or no Betty mould, Moslem running mate or catholic, the elephant will take the northern votes from the umbrella and that too is no good news for your ailing heart, Akufo Addo, your Achimota school mate just announced a GH 1 billion cedis Northern Development fund that is no good news for your party.
He went ahead to tell your brothers and sisters in the Volta region they deserve a university and I saw them clapping, your Excellency, I know you can bear loosing central region and some constituencies in the north but loosing your own Volta region will be disastrous. If Akufo Addo talks to his senior Brother, Kuffuor and they cut a sod for the construction of the Volta Star University (VSU), it will be the end of your NDC whose manifesto you dearly signed with all your BLOOD.
By the way sir, Are you still aware the NPP found some oil in the western region and it is estimated to bring in over USD 15billion? That is bad news for you.
In central region which used to be your stronghold until you insulted them some years ago about “how clean the cat was compared to the people of Capecoast”, Professor Asomdwehene will loose 2008 ‘basa, basa,’ Your NDC has just 2 out of the 19 seats, the elephant is likely to capture Kuntu’s seat at Mfantseman east. If it shows mercy, it might leave you Ati Morkwa. I just returned to Accra from Capecoast and I came via Metro Bus.
In central region, we simply call the Metro Mass transport “KUFFUOR BUS” my 5 year old son will not allow me to board the GPRTU bus because he says kuffuor’s bus is safer, and charged just GH 3.00 Cedis, whilst GPRTU takes GH 4.00 cedis between Capecoast and Accra. Passengers are queuing up at the Kuffuor bus terminal and that is no good news for you and your NDC.
I met one of your regional party executives in the Bus and he needed the elephant to protect him because the umbrella was no longer safe. He said, “The elephant did the mallam-yamoranza road and the people of central region should be very grateful to the NPP. Rumor has it that it took just one hour for prof. Asomdwehene to travel from Accra to Akotokyer his hometown and he was so grateful the roads are better this time than before 2000.
He can now visit Capecoast very often. He nearly forgot the roads were constructed by his political opponents.
For 19 years, you could not bring to the good people of Ghana, a quarter of the development projects Kuffuor has brought and you have the impudence to call him a murderer?
See your party hierarchy will not heed your advice again. The bible says “se enkyene yera ne de a, ye hwie gu ma nnipa tia, tia so” (asked Nana Konadu she will translate that in English for you).
Your Excellency, your advice has lost its value and it has hurt and damaged the NDC badly that is why kid glove or not, they took Mahama instead of Lovely Betty Mould-Iddrisu. Think of it, did you seek the advice of anyone when you made Mills your running mate in 1996? Did you seek the advice of anyone when you declared him unopposed in 2000 as the flag bearer of the once great Akatamansonians party? All this has never helped your party that is why they might not need your advice again.
Now back to your press conference, you stated inter alia “when we were in government the NPP’s criticisms were consistent and destructive” All your policies if you had any at all, were consistently destructive to the interest of the state. You were the president then but did not heed wise counsel.
The good people of Ghana, most of whom had voted for you in 1996(for 1992 you stole the elections), voted against the NDC and brought the NPP in. They have never regretted voting for the elephant. After all,
We no longer pay huge sums of money when we are sick. Cash and carry has been carried out of Ghana for good thanks to the NPP government, We do not pay school fees at the basic level
Our kids are being fed free of charge at the basic level.
Journalist can write and talk free without going to jail, remember you did your press conference free without any intimidation from CDR, ACDR, Militia and the Commandos.
The NPP offered destructive criticism because cash and carry was destructive,
Your utterances in public was and has been destructive and divisive,
You were/has been very destructive to the growth of private and indigenous Ghanaian industries by asking people not to buy Apino soap and Darko chicken, sir we have not forgotten all these.
Did I hear you say “there is too much injustice and that the NPP is testing the ability of the nation to resist their corrupt government? ‘Injustice’ huh, who is the greatest culprit? It seems to me this word is very familiar to you.
After slapping Mr. Kow Nkensen Arkaah, you were never prosecuted that is injustice to his family.
After asking Ghanaians to stop patronizing Apino soap, the company collapsed that was injustice to Mr. Appiah Menka.
Five persons were killed by your ACDR in the kumepreko demonstrations and that is injustice,
After calling Mr Kuffuor “Ataa Ayi” you were never tortured and that’s not fair.
I think you are right, because divesting most of the state industries to your wife and her 31st December people, she is still walking free. She is yet to be jailed and that is injustice to the state.
After toppling the Limann government, you were never prosecuted and that is also injustice.
How could the NPP have masterminded the murder of the Ya-Na and engineered the murder of Mobilla? Who was this mobilla man? These are all a figment of your imagination. Did you kill the three high court judges? What happened to the thousands of people who disappeared during your AFRC/PNDC days?
Our mothers were stripped naked and flogged openly, our fathers, battered like criminals, our businesses collapsed, Ghana sank to her lowest ebb during your tenure as president of Ghana. Your government had terrible human rights records. Your AFRC/PNDC killed a lot of people all in the name of a silly Revolution, and your NDC tortured and maimed our economy to the extent that by the time the good people of Ghana threw your NDC out of power in 2000, our total debt pile stood at 41 trillion cedis, inflation hovered around 45% and interest rate perched at 50%. We had to go HIPC before coming out of the precarious state you took us to.
Now, Inflation is at 16%, interest rate 21%, and foreign reserve of USD 2.8 Billion. We have made progress and WE ARE MOVING FORWARD. Please do not take us back.
Mr Ex-president, did you compare Ghana to Zimbabwe? “That the only difference between Ghana and Zimbabwe was that in Zimbabwe, people are fleeing whilst in Ghana, people were under coercive silence with no where to go? Are you serious with this statement? You have just organized a successful press conference to lambaste the present government, calling them thieves and murderers, could this have happened during your time? The other time, when you went on demonstrations with your new friend Kwesi Pratt on CJA platform, you called Kuffuor a thief, now you called him a murderer and no one dragged you to some military guard room for tutoring.
The greatest gift you can give Prof Asomdwehene between now and December 7th is to shut your mouth up. The more you burst out in public, the more you push voters towards Nana Akufo Addo. You had all the powers as president in 1979-2000 to repeal the criminal libel law, the same law you and your wife used to throw Haruna Atta(your sister in-law’s husband) and Kweku Baako(your teenage friend) to Nsawam prison.
Now the NPP has repealed the law ‘waa, waa to enable you talk boom, boom’ against them.
Nana Akufo Addo will win the next elections to be our NEXT PRESIDENT because he is the BEST MAN for Ghana. He will continue the good works of Mr Kuffuor and he will certainly beef up the police to work efficiently and effectively for a better Ghana.
Finally, Mr ex-president, as a former military man, I expected you to be ready all the time. You came to this press conference late with a lame excuse about running out of water. You could not even install a reserve tank in your home to store water and you have the impudence to chastise others. You will continue to have power cuts and water shortages in your house if you do not buy a stand by generator and reserve tank. I suggest you talk to your nephew Agogo, for his friend, Richard Kinston’s polytank.
If you had attempted to solve all these problems during your 19 years as president, Kuffuor would have taken us to grounds higher than where we are now. Begin to get used to Akufo Addo’s government for there is no way prof. Asomdwehene will come to power.
NPP- power
NPP- ye akaso
NPP- We are moving forward.
I hope you will not talk again because if you do, “I WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK” with another letter to you.
Good Day.
Yours Sincerely,
KOFI KARIKARI KINGSLEY
