Oboshie Sai-Coffie fulfils promise
Loading ...Ms Oboshie Sai-Coffie, Minister of Tourism and Diasporean Relations has presented a cheque for 1,000 Ghana cedis to defray the medical expenses of seven nursing mothers who were detained for their inability to pay their bills after delivery at the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua.
This was in fulfilment of a promise made by Ms Sai-Coffie, then Minister for Information and National Orientation during a visit to the hospital in April, this year, as part of her duty tour of the Region. Dr Obeng Apori, Chief Executive Officer of the hospital, receiving the cheque, expressed appreciation of the management for the gesture.
He said most nursing mothers who had not registered with the National Health Insurance Scheme and could not pay their medical bills had in the past left huge debts for the hospital.
Dr Apori said with the Government’s intervention for free anti-natal care for pregnant women, it would encourage them to attend hospital when pregnant and deliver under supervision by trained health personnel. He said in addition, it would reduce the high maternal deaths in the country.
