Labourer fined GH¢1,000 for stealing oil palm seedlings

An Asamankese Circuit court has sentenced Kwasi Kumi, a labourer to GH¢1,000 fine for stealing six oil palm seedlings belonging to Ghana Oil Palm Development Company.
In default, Kumi who pleaded guilty would serve 18 months imprisonment in hard labour.
Police Inspector Francis Cobbina, prosecuting told the court presided over by Mr Kofi Akrowiah that on June 6, this year at about 1730 hours, security guards at the company spotted Kumi and an accomplice uprooting oil palm seedlings from its nursery.
He said they were chased, the accused was arrested and during interrogation, admitted the offence and said he was to transplant them on his farm.
