Colleague actors of the late Kwame Owusu Ansah have paid glowing tribute to him during his burial service at the Holy Spirit Cathedral and final funeral rites at the Ghana International Trade Fair last Saturday.

According to Daniel Tei-Mensah, an actor, “Kwame was a good friend and a brother to me. I get sad when I think about the things we used to do on set like sharing jokes.

It is still hard for me to think that he’s gone,” he said with tears in his eyes.

“The industry has lost an individual who made his mark and did what he could to promote the industry.

He was a great person, dynamic and very generous”, he added.

Eunice Banini, another actress, narrated her shock and dismay upon hearing the news of Kwame’s death. “ I did not have the opportunity to act in a film with Kwame, but I have known him to be respectful, polite, playful and full of smiles.

To see his life come to a halt is so pathetic”, she said. She said that she was at home when Nii of Efiewura series called to inform her about the accident involving Kwame.

“I immediately called Adjoa Pee to verify with her sister, Princess, who works with one of the hospitals in Tema. A day later what we dreaded most happened. It’s a big blow to all of us,” said Eunice.

When Showbiz caught up with Adjoa Pee she said: “Kwame always described me as his dream girl and anytime we met he made that known to me. I usually responded by saying, Dream On!”

Adjoa was obviously finding it difficult to put words together to describe how painful it was for her to say good bye to a good friend.

“It makes me wonder, what else one should do to feel safe in this world. I just don’t know,” she said.

“When Eunice called me about the accident and it was confirmed by my sister, we were all praying to God to spare us another agony.

You know, Suzzy Williams and Terry Bonchaka died through motor accidents and honestly, I think it is getting out of hand,” she said.

The President of the Ghana Actors Guild (GAG), Mr Samuel Nii-Odoi Mensah told Showbiz: “We played the lead roles in his last movie, The Day of Restoration.

When I heard the news on Radio Gold that Kwame had been involved in an accident, I thought it was a joke, so I called Fred Amugi for more information and it turned out to be true.

“Later, I was on my way to visit him when I heard on the radio that he was dead. I was devastated by the news.” he said.

“I would describe Kwame as a quiet person, gentle, respectful, who doesn’t show-off, not snobbish and fun to work with and it’s unfortunate that we can’t see him today in our midst.” These were the words of Koo Fori a colleague and friend.

“I was on admission at the 37 Military Hospital when I heard the news and was discharged just last week.

When a person dies, I think it’s more important to think of where the person would spend eternity rather than reading meanings into what killed that person,” Koo Fori advised.

Naana Hayford, an actress based in Kumasi was one of the ‘doubting Thomases’ who wanted to see the body before believing that Kwame was actually dead.

“I was driving when I received a call that Kwame was dead and then the calls kept coming. In the craze of trying to come to terms with the tragic news, I was nearly involved in an accident myself”,she added.

Amankwah Ampofo, an actor and GTV presenter commented on how short life on this earth was.
“I’m appalled by the rate at which our colleagues are leaving us.

It is unfortunate for Kwame to leave us like that, considering the fact that this was a young man who had his whole life before him. I cannot imagine what his wife and family are going through, it must be terrible.”
