Politicians have always been known to be crafty, and that should explain why they seem to have answers for almost all situations – until the people decide they have had enough!

But the Ghanaian breed are turning out lazy and two-faced as well. (Did I hear you say they all are already?)

Tuesday on Joy FM appeared one of the harrowing days for the people seeking the people’s mandate to manage national affairs and improve the lot of the people, but what emerged from the interesting discussion on the Super Morning Show, was that the plethora of ideas seemingly coming from the political parties are indeed those of individuals. You will therefore need to be careful which party you hold to what campaign promise.

From the ruling NPP to the NDC, CPP and PNC and what have you, none has a manifesto yet, and when the question was put, their resolve was unanimous: the political season has not been opened yet, and that would be done by the Electoral Commission, per the Constitution and political parties law, in September!

That is to say, it is too early to ask for a manifesto! But Nana Oye Lithur of the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative has a question for them all – Why and upon what promise are they campaigning then?

Her conclusion is that they are taking the people for a ride.

May be the EC will intervene with a statutory date for the submission of manifestos so the usual excuse of ‘the opponent will plagiarise’ others’ ideas will no longer hold. But is it an acceptable excuse? What do you think, is it really too early to ask for the working documents of the parties that started campaigning to seek the national mandate over a year ago?
