Adakabre Frimpong-Manso, General Manager of Hot FM, an Accra-based radio station, has described a certain Tommy Nortey aka Tommy Louis, a wanted man by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service for an attempted murder, as an imposter of a Disc Jockey (DJ) who had never been an employee of the radio station.
Speaking to DAILY GUIDE in a telephone interview in reaction to a police report which stated that Tommy Nortey was a DJ with Hot FM, Mr. Frimpong-Manso denied the existence of such a name on the station’s payroll.
According to him, Tommy once applied for a job at the station but when his certificates were perused, some anomalies were detected and upon further cross-checking it was concluded that he was not qualified for the job.
Mr. Frimpong-Manso, who is also the host of Maakye, the station’s Morning Show, one of the hottest shows in Accra, said Tommy mentioned a lot of companies he had worked with as part of his experience, but a diligent check by the management of Hot FM exposed the falsehood in his claim and therefore declined to offer him the job.
The morning show host indicated that at one point in time, management heard about the nefarious activities of Tommy, who allegedly was claiming to be a DJ at the station.
Their fears were heightened when a lady came to the station and asked to see one of the DJs (name withheld); but when the said DJ was called to see the lady, it turned out to be a different person.
The description the lady gave fitted Tommy alright but it was the name of the DJ which the lady insisted she was given by Tommy.
Mr. Frimpong-Manso therefore insisted that Tommy Louis was not and had never been a member of staff of the company, neither was he a DJ of the station.
In a related development, lawyers of Hot FM have reacted to a story on this issue that DAILY GUIDE carried with the caption “DJ Stabs Lover” in its Tuesday 25, March 2008 edition.
Akufo-Addo, Prempeh & Co, lawyers of the station, in a rejoinder to the paper on March 31, 2008, indicated that “it was thus improper and clearly malicious to state in your publication that Tommy Nortey was at all material times an employee of our client”.
Tommy is wanted by the police for allegedly stabbing his former girlfriend (name withheld), with the intention of killing her.
A warrant to that effect was issued by the La District Magistrate Court in Accra, directing the Teshie Police District Commander to apprehend the suspect for attempted murder.
According to the police, Tommy and the victim had been in a relationship for the past year until recently when the relationship turned sour and ever since, the suspect had been threatening the life of the victim.
The report said on November 25, 2007 at about 11.15pm, the suspect stabbed the lady with a knife on the chest several times, and left her to die. She however survived the ordeal and a report was made to the police. Tommy has since gone into hiding.
