Free ICT for school heads
Educated Quality Improvement Programme Ghana (EQIP), a non-governmental organization which aims at promoting and facilitating the integration of Information Communication Technology (ICT) into education has expressed its readiness to train heads of schools, ICT coordinators and local technical service providers in the use of Digital Teaching And Learning Environment (DTLE) for communication and knowledge exchange.
The training, which is expected to take-off this month, would start with two teacher training colleges, ten basic and senior high schools, as well as universities in the Greater Accra Region and the Central Region.
Bob Hensen, Adviser to EQIP, who made this known in Accra, said EQIP believes learning is a life-long experience and must not be limited to the classroom.
According to him, their aim was to create and support good education and ICT infrastructure in Ghana, necessary for the implementation of ICT in education.
“The programme is developed by a non-governmental organization called Change for Africa in the Netherlands which would refurbish the computers to the various schools whilst IESA foundation in Ghana executes the programme.”
He said three schools have since benefited from the programme in Tema and these include the Tema Parents School, Rose Sharon Montessori School and Deks International School.
“EQIP sees the role of the teacher in achieving the broad objective of the programs and it will therefore produce teacher coaches that are better prepared to use modern teaching materials to ensure that the modern methods are used to satisfy the present demands of the society”.
Adding his voice, the Manager In Charge of Finance, Peter Van-Spign said the programme of enhancing ICT in education in Ghana was focused on the improvement of the quality of education in general and is directed at implementing the prioritization in the provision of ICT services as set by government.
He added that the perspective of the programme would also create a sustainable digital teaching and learning environment for education in Ghana.
