Agogo salutes Kumasi fans
Ghana’s Agogo Manuel Junior has expressed his appreciation and profound gratitude to soccer fans in Kumasi for the support and warm reception they accorded the senior national team.
The Stars after losing out to Cameroon at the semifinal stage of the Africa Nations Cup, left their Accra base to engage Cote d’Ivoire for the third place match at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on Saturday.
During the game, the Black Stars put up a spirited second half performance to snatch the bronze medal from the Elephants.
On arrival at the Garden City on Friday thousands of soccer fans, including women and children thronged the Kumasi Airport to give the Stars a befitting welcome. Also other enthusiastic residents of the city lined up the streets to cheer the Stars who were in a convoy to the Golden Tulip Kumasi City Hotel where they lodged.
Kumasi fans who seemed to be content with the exploits of the Black Stars in the tournament defied the heavy downpour last Friday evening to watch their idols train at the Baba Yara Stadium.
This commendable gesture, according to Agogo who was making his maiden appearance for the Stars in the city, motivated the senior national team to go all out to beat Cote d’Ivoire 4-2 to win the bronze medal at the tournament.
Speaking to DAILY GUIDE SPORTS after the game, the prolific striker stated that soccer fans in Kumasi were second to none in terms of supporting and urged them to continue to help the team go places in future.
He described Kumasi as a nice city with good people, stressing that he enjoyed his short stay there.
