It is no surprise that Showbiz drew a blank in its attempt to seek confirmation that three of the hottest players in the current Black Stars team are dating three of the hottest babes in Ghana.

Call it celebrity versus celebrity and one will not be wrong. Chelsea and Black Stars midfielder Michael Essien is said to be “going out” with pretty actress in “Beyonce” and other films, Nadia Buari.

So is Portsmouth and Black Stars midfielder Sulley Muntari being “connected” with 2004 Miss Ghana Universe beauty queen, Menaye Donkor.

Udinese and Black Stars striker Asamoah Gyan has also been said to be “seeing” Miss Ghana 2006, Irene Dwomoh.
The common denominator that binds the three celebrity girls is that none of them would confirm …. or deny the relationship when Showbiz got in touch. One of them was even much harder to find — she was always out of “coverage area”.

But information gathered by Showbiz from sources close to the parties involved, reveal that the three couples have been dating for over one year now.

Nadia, 25, is said to have confirmed her relationship with the football star on Metro TV.

According to a source, Michael Essien was bowled over by the beautiful actress when he watched her performance in one of her films and one thing led to another and they have been together since then.

They’ve been spotted together a good number of times both in Ghana and in the United Kingdom where Essien plays professional football.

The source said they are certainly serious about each other and they are in love. “They are a real couple. The relationship has really grown. She’s spending time with him.

“Going out together and being seen together is their discreet way of letting the public know it’s official. It’s not like you can send out a press release about these things.” the source said.

Sulley Muntari, midfielder for Portsmouth and the Black Stars has been linked with Menaye Ama Afamede Donkor, Miss Ghana Univers 2004 and it is believed they live together in the UK.

The two recently graced the front page of Pompey Life, a new magazine dedicated to bringing to Pompey fans the private lives of the Portsmouth players.

According to the publication, what initially started as a rumour was confirmed when the two lovebirds looked inseparable at the Zenith Bank sponsored 4 nation tournament last year.

According to a source, Menaye met Muntari at the World Cup finals in Germany in 2006, but she claims that their relationship is still in its “honeymoon period”. She also says that she is “very proud of him. He is a very focused, determined person”.

Black Stars striker, Asamoah Gyan, 22, might have missed some chances to score at the ongoing Ghana 2008 but he hasn’t missed ‘scoring’ the heart of Irene Dwomoh, Miss Ghana 2006.

Irene, 21, a Mathematics and Statistics undergraduate student at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), is said to have been dating the Udinese striker for the past year.

According to a source, the two were introduced by a mutual friend and after a series of long distance phone calls, they hooked up in London and have been an item since then.

In a Statesman newspaper publication last year, Irene admitted her relationship with Asamoah Gyan. “We don’t see each other much. He stays in Italy and I’m in Ghana and he can’t stop his work and come here.”

Asked about her hopes for the relationship, Irene said, “I’m not hoping for anything for the two of us. Time will tell. Irene described Gyan as “kind, nice and a gentleman.”
