NSC inspires Agbeko
The National Sports Council (NSC) has donated boxing equipment to International Boxing Federation (IBF) Bantamweight champion, Joseph Agbeko at a short ceremony in Accra on Tuesday.
The equipment worth GH¢1,000 (¢10m) consisted of punching bags, sparring gloves, head gear, boxing gloves and towels.
Prince Oduro Mensah, NSC Chief Executive Officer, making the presentation, said the people of this country and NSC were happy and proud that Ghana has another world champion after the likes of D.K. Poison, Azumah Nelson and Ike Quartey.
He emphasised that the council was donating the equipment to aid him in his training as well as encourage and motivate him to defend and win his next fight scheduled for March.
Agbeko on his part thanked the council and promised to unite the belts in that division adding that he was not prepared to loose his title to anyone.
In a chat with DAILY GUIDE SPORTS the Champion explained that “most of our sportsmen are from the ghetto and government needs to do something to encourage them to become very good sportsmen and win more laurels for the country.”
Agbeko, who was yet to be given an opponent for the title fight in March, used the opportunity to ask for prayers of all Ghanaians to help him achieve his objective, adding that he wants to be known as a knock-out specialist in his division and promised to knock his opponent.
