Parliament pledges support for film industry

The Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Alhaji Malik Al-Hassan Yakubu, has pledged the resolve of parliament to support the country’s film industry.
He said Parliament would support and pass any piece of legislation that will help the film industry to grow for the country to recoup the benefits.
Alhaji Yakubu, who is also the fourth vice president of the Pan African Parliament said this when the winners of “The Next Movie Star” 2007 paid a courtesy call on him at his office at Parliament on Tuesday.
The Next Movies star is a television reality show that grooms raw talent for the film industry.
Enock Hammond, a Ghanaian, emerged the winner of the show among 16 contenders of the show that was staged in Nigeria in October. Uti Nwachuku, a Nigerian, was the first runner-up and Martha Ankomah, a Ghanaian, emerged the second runner up.
Alhaji Yakubu commended the winners of show for their resilience particularly to Hammond and Martha for bringing fame to the country.
He urged the winners not to rest on the oars but strive hard to make a positive mark in the film industry. Alhaji Yakubu urged Nigerian and Ghanaian actors to work together as partners in the film industry so as to give it a positive impact on the rest of the world.
Mr. Hammond thanked the government and the people of Ghana for their prayers and support that had made him emerge as the winner.
He noted that there abound a lot of talents in the youth and therefore appealed to Parliament to pass appropriate legislation that would help unearth talents in the film industry.
The winners who are scheduled to receive their awards later, were accompanied by Ahmed Boular and Ekow Daniel, events managers of the show.
