National Festival of Arts and Culture next week
The Biennial National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFAC) opens in Wa in the Upper West Region on November 17 with a grand durbar of the chiefs and people in the region.
The nine-day festival under the theme: “Culture - A Vehicle for Wealth Creation”, seeks to promote and give recognition to the arts and culture as important sectors for the creation of wealth for the nation’s socio-economic development.
A statement signed by Mr. Nelson Akatey, Public Relations Officer of the National Commission on Culture, said the biennial celebration was a cultural event that brought all the 10 regions to showcase the rich cultural values and heritage of Ghana.
It also provided the opportunity for stakeholders and the general public to dialogue on important national issues. “It is the expectation of the Ministry of Chieftaincy and culture that this year’s celebration would be another unique event to promote our cultural heritage and project our unity in diversity especially as we prepare towards the celebration of our 50th independence anniversary next year.”
Highlights of the programme include exhibitions, Regional Day celebrations, colloquium, dances from the regions, story telling and drama.
